Let’s talk about literature today,
to get started, let’s talk about something that is not “old-fashioned and
boring”, as many people think when talking about classic literature – just let
me tell you that it is not true at all, you’ll see.
It’s been a while since I read a
good romantic novel with which I could fall in love, but with Me before you, by Jojo Moyes, I did. It
has had such an amazing response from the audience that, after its publication
in 2012, at the end of September we will have in our hands the second part of
the story, After you. What’s more,
the film adaptation, directed by Thea Sharrock and starring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Sam Caflin (The Hunger Games) among other familiar
faces, is currently in postproduction.
Let me warn you, this is a novel
that melts your heart from the very beginning. It tells the story of Louisa
Clark, a shy small town girl who loses her job at the local cafe which means
she can no longer help financially her family, and Will Traynor, a successful
young man that suddenly sees his life change completely after a road accident.
The lives of these two youngsters eventually collide and this fact gives shape
to this bittersweet novel. As mentioned, the book is full of sweet and charming
moments and some rather sad as well. But above all, we will find a loving
story, difficult to forget, that will change forever the lives of these two
main characters, and yours if you are too sensitive.
Some will say that “this is one of
those cheesy sad books women love so much”, but I agree to disagree, as anyone
with a little of empathy will enjoy it. The book raises a polemical issue,
don’t worry I won’t reveal it in order not to spoil your reading, that even
nowadays still causes controversy and gives readers a chance to think about the
topic.
I can only add that I heartily
recommend reading this piece of writing. I will surely be one of the firsts
people on the queue to buy the sequel (out 29th September) after
enjoying so much Me before you.
Hablemos
de literatura hoy, y para empezar, hablemos de algo que no sea “pasado de moda
y aburrido” como muchos piensan de las obras clásicas (solo dejadme adelantar
que esto último no es cierto, ya lo iremos comprobando).
Hacía
tiempo que una novela romántica no me enamoraba de la manera en la que Yo antes de ti, de la autora inglesa
Jojo Moyes, lo ha hecho. Tanto ha maravillado al público, desde su publicación
en 2012, que a finales de septiembre saldrá a la venta la segunda parte de esta
historia (After you). Además, también
se encuentra en postproducción la esperada adaptación cinematográfica, dirigida
por Thea Sharrock y protagonizada por la famosa Khaleesi de Juego de Tronos, Emilia Clarke, y por el popular actor
Sam Caflin (Los juegos del hambre) entre otros rostros conocidos.
Y
es que es una historia que enamora desde el principio. En las páginas de esta
joya literaria se cuenta la historia de Louisa Clark, una tranquila chica de
pueblo que pierde su cómodo trabajo en una cafetería y se ve perdida y sin
poder ayudar a mantener a su familia, y Will Traynor, un joven con éxito que
disfrutaba la vida hasta que un accidente de tráfico cambia su vida. Las vidas
de estos dos jóvenes se cruzan y van dando forma a este agridulce relato. El
libro está lleno de momentos encantadores y dulces, otros más amargos y tristes,
pero sobre todo podremos encontrar una tierna historia difícil de olvidar que
cambiará la vida de estos personajes principales, y la tuya si eres muy
sensible.
Muchos
podrán decir que “es otra de esas novelas lacrimógenas que gustan tanto a las
mujeres”, pero opino todo lo contrario, ya que cualquier persona con un mínimo
de sensibilidad puede disfrutar de este maravilloso libro. Asimismo, la novela
saca a colación un tema que todavía hoy en día sigue creando polémica, y que no
desvelaré para no arruinaros la lectura, y da una oportunidad para reflexionar
sobre este.
No me queda más que recomendar encarecidamente
la lectura de esta novela; desde luego yo seré de las primeras en la cola para
comprar la secuela (a la venta el 29 de septiembre) después de haber disfrutado
tanto la primera parte.
